Black & White Plus1

A while back in CyberArts class, our teacher gave us a task to do. We had to make a Black and White Plus 1 picture using Adobe Photoshop.

In the beginning of the year our class went out to the school's garden and started taking photos of what looked interesting to us. After that we came back o the classroom and uploaded the photos. I took a lot of photos but we only had to chose 10 for a blog review ( which I will also post) and take one from the 10 and start creating our Black and White Plus 1 picture.

It was hard to chose just one photo to transform it to a new photo. But I ended up choosing this photo. In the beginning this picture was a bright orange with a dull green colour in the background. To make it black and white I used the greyscale filter. The black and white still looked a little dull and it didn't have enough contrast so what I did is I stared playing around with the levels to darken up the darks and brighten up the lights. When I liked how the black and white turned out I finally got to work on the plus one. Hmm I wonder what the plus one means.... I'm kidding with all of you. For my plus one ( which is adding colour) I made the flower have colour because the flower is the main vocal point of the photo. I coloured it and filled it in. It originally was just orange. I like having vibrant colours in my art work so I played with the colour pallet and it just make the orange more vibrant. The I discover that if I went beyond the flower it turned into a bright eye catching magenta. That's basically all I had to do.

So making this photo was challenging but fun to do. I hope you enjoyed this piece of art :) 

Stays Within

For our last CyberARTS tech assignment  we had to create our own Digital Surrealism Photo with a story behind it. 

The story behind this photo is about my younger brother who gets bullied. Every day my brother comes home looking sad. Right away he tells me what happens at school. People call him weird or different, a loser. All these name that he should not be called. When i went to school with him he May have looked happy on the outside, but what really matters is on the inside. I feel bad that my brother and so many children in the world have to face this everyday.

My message is even though they may seem fine on the outside but they're truly dying on the inside. My title is Called "Stays Within" because  every time you call someone for example a loser, that will stay with that person forever. Some kids end up committing suicide to themselves because of how much pain they go through. 

For those of you who are reading this, chose wisely of what you're going to call a person. One day it might even kill u that you called that person that. Even though it may be funny to you, it may not be funny to the person you're calling. You have to understand that other people have feelings. They may be weird in you eyes but to other people they're everything. 

Now on to the details of the photo. I chose that background because I wanted to look like someone is walking. I obviously used some people  in my photo . Each of these people represents something. The "lonely boy" represents my brother. he is the main vocal point in this photo because this is about him. The reason why  he's looking down with no emotion on his face because he feels alone and he's just thinking about what people called him and how they looked him and how humiliated he was. The 2 groups faded in the background represented the bullies. They're laughing and pointing at him because of how different the " lonely boy" was. I've seen people done that to my brother and not only it hurt him, it hurt me just to see what people do to him. The words represented What people have called him. To be honest he breaks down because of it. Those word won't go away, they will never go away. He will try to hide it but it will always say within him. 

That is the story/ message behind my photo.

A while back we had to take a one of our garden photos and play with Adobe Photoshop to get a black and white photo.

At the top its the original photo that I took in our own school garden. I thought the colour would have been fun to experiment With black and white channels.

The second photo is the black and white photo using RGB. RGB stands for Red, Green and Blue. With that filter I used the green channel. I used the green channel because while I was messing around with each channel i though the green channel had a more contrast then the other channels. 


The last photo, I used the Gradient Map. When i first hear about the gradient map I thought it was something that had to do with cropping a photo. Then once we learned how to use it, it had nothing to do with cropping it. With the Gradient Map its a little bit different then RGB. Once you use this filter it already switches it to black and white. You also get to play around with the lights and darks. To brighten up the flower (so it would have been emphasized) I bumped up the brights a little. Just to make the flower stand out. With the darks I made the background a bit darker as well just to once again emphasize the flower.

Personally I like using the Gradient Map more because I get to have my own personal settings for the black and white photo. I would recommend using the Gradient map on a black and white photo. If you would like to emphasize the red, the blues or the greens in a black and white photo use the RGB it helps a lot.

Chess Piece

For visual art class we were learning how to do still life drawings. We all got a chess piece and tried putting all  different the value. Learning for this project was showing different values and shades. Also we learned how to  put contrast in a art piece.

I think that there is a lot of movement in the background ( with the swirls). In my opinion it makes your eyes move. Also there are so many different patterns between the black and white spots and there's balance between between the blacks and the whites. I hope you enjoyed this Chess Piece art.

My Illustrator Logo

    This Project the class used Adobe Illustrator. I had to chose an object that represents me. I chose a bed because my family calls me lazy( I agree with them). My lazy day is where is sit on my bed on my phone while eating something. Then I thought to myself, why not do a bed for my Illustrator logo? So I ended up doing a bed.

  

    To start off with I had to chose a photo (of a bed) on google images. The photo is chose is the first one on the top of the page.  I had to traced out the shape of the bed, so I used a tool on Adobe Illustrator called the pen tool. In my opinion it was hard to use because I've never used the pen tool before, but it was cool to try out. If you want to trace something on the computer I highly suggest using Adobe Illustrator because it has a lot of great tools for an artist project.

    

    For colouring there were many ways of we had to colour our logos. First we had to make a black and white version. Then we had to make a grey scale version. I thought it was hard trying to get the different shades of grey because for me I didn't know that there were so many shades of grey. After we had to make one with any colours we wanted. Finally we had to colour copy the outline 8-9 times and then make them all different colours. 

    

   I thought doing this project would be hard, but as I was making my way through it, everything just started getting more simple. I had fun learning about how to use Adobe Illustrator. I hope you enjoyed  My Illustrator Logo.  :)

     For the past two weeks the Year 1 CyberARTS class has been working on a reproduction. The painting/ piece of art that we had to reproduce was " The Third Class Carriage" by Honore Daunier. Each student in the class at least had 2 pieces to reproduce. The main point about this project was to learn how to enlarge a picture. Also how to used charcoal for value. No once knew how this piece would turn out, in the end but once we put it all together it looked amazing!

     First lets start off with Emotionalism. To me the feeling of this photo is upsetting, but with a lot of care. By the title of this art work ( The Third Class Carriage) and also the colours that are used in this piece it's upsetting because " Third Class" is the lowest class out of all the classes. Which also means that they're the poor class. Daumier used a lot of dark tones in this art piece which made it look upsetting ( in my opinion). But it's also trying to say that "Even though they're poor, they're caring as can be." By looking at the picture you could see a women with a child. Not only  she's poor she also has a  child to raise and worry about. you could tell by the look on her face you could see a hint of a smile in there and knowing with that hint of a smile, you could tell that the women cares for that child and wants that child to be healthy and safe. If I were them I would think to myself " Even though I may not be like the others, I am still more caring and thoughtful for someone else other then myself." This is what I think the emotion is in this painting.

     The next thing we are going to talk about is the Unity in this painting. I do think that there is unity in this painting because there's a lot of balance between colours and emphasis between the two women and the child at the front. There's balance in the original painting by looking at the colours. How I see the balance, is if you look at the original painting you see a lot of dark tones. But the yellows and the creamy white makes the people stand out more.

   Some people in the world expect the objects in the art work to look realistic. But the truth is that not all objects need to be realistic. To me the original painting is balanced between realistic an not realistic. The faces and other body parts looks realistic because there's a lot of detail for example women in the front row. There is a lot of lines in her face to make the women with the basket look elderly. All the faces with the different shadings make it look realistic. I do think that this art piece looks realistic.

Thoughts Of Mind

Hello! With the thumb print of mine, I wanted to talk more about my identity. What I tried to communicate in this art piece is for you to get to know me a little bit more. I got really interested on this assignment because i got to write a story in the shape of my thumb print and I got to use water colour for the back background. Personally I love water colour. This project has personal meaning to me because it talks about me and my life styles, my interests and other things important to me. I used the colours Purple and Red. I used Purple because it's my favourite colour and to me it's a calm and relaxing colour. I used Red because i needed something to pop or stand out, so i used Red. It has a rich, dark tone so it worked really well. Which is also balance and contrast between colours.

For this art piece I had to experiment with many things. I experimented with colours, fonts, and trying to communicate myself. The thing I really struggled on was trying to communicate myself and then making it look like a thumb print. I used water colour materials for the background, such as a watercolour pallet, 2 cups of water ( one for washing your brush and the other one for water colour effects), a watercolour (fluffy) brush , rubber cement ( to stick the watercolour parer and the over head paper), and other little materials like tape to stick on a board with your paper and a thin marker to write your thumb print. I'm especially pleased on how it turned out. I didn't think it would look that good because of he colours, they didn't match an i never thought it would have worked out. But it did.
